I've been trying to think if you can count Virginia. Do you permit airport stops and freeway drives, because I think you came in through Dulles.
Given that I'm pretty untravelled (at least in an eastward direction; and certainly relative to Carole), I'm putting down all possible countries and states. I'm excluding airport stops where I don't leave the airport, which could net me Missouri, but if I got out of the airport and travelled around a bit, then it's in.
I'm actually a bit hazy on east coast states. I visited a couple with you in 1995 (DC, Maryland?), and then I visited at least one or two more than I visited Princeton in 2000. I got at least New York and New Jersey then, but I'm pretty sure I crossed a state line at one point for our conference dinner. Which state line, however, is up for grabs at the moment.
Anyway, I thought that this was a pretty cool webtool. I surprised myself with the number of US states visited, but then disappointed myself with the number of countries. Then again, conscious of my air miles, perhaps I shouldn't be so greedy.
Incidentally, I might be ticking off a further US state, Kentucky, in July. Probably just for the duration of a conference though.
So, If you landed at Dulles as I recall, I then drove you to Maryland. When we went to the coast, we were still in Maryland. I've only been to Delaware once, and that way by mistake ;) At the end of your time in Maryland, we left from National (now Reagan), which is also in Virginia, and we passed by the Pentagon to get there.
Anyway, I think you can count Virginia if you want to, because you were outside of the airport, even if only on teh freeway.
Marvellous. Another state! Although I would like to do it properly one day. On that note, if I consider only those states that I've spent, say, more than a day in, I'm looking at more slender pickings. And even then, my trips to states like New York have only taken in a major city. From Wikipedia I read of marvels like the Adirondack State Park ...
Anyway, what's your state count looking like? Your transcontinental road trip must have racked up a load of them.
